      Originally published in 1943, this new edition focuses on the early days of Audubon, who was born in Haiti, raised in France, and came to America at age eighteen. The characters are two-dimensional, and without cited sources, it's unclear how much of the cheery text is fictionalized. The pencil illustrations are detailed, but the people look like caricatures.
