Articles and Interviews

INTERVIEW WITH Shifting Perspectives Ale Rambar • What if the layering effect of topographical maps was applied to representations of the figure or abstraction? This question sparked the initial idea for Costa Rican artist Ale Rambar's most recent works and led the artist on a yearslong exploration of topography as both a visual and metaphorical device in his art. Drawing from his formal training in architecture, his work is characterized by precision, detail and an attention to materials. Beyond these visual elements, however, lies deeper conversations about diversity, identity and equality through the figures he selects to portray and the colorful, immersive installations he creates almost exclusively with paper. In this interview, we learn about how he approaches the two disparate styles of his work, how he became a brand ambassador for multiple companies and what he's looking forward to next in his career.
